To improve the bloodlines of Paint horses in New Zealand. As well as using our New Zealand Paint stallions, artificial breeding is becoming more popular.  Veterinarians are gaining more widespread knowledge on the subject, making it easier for our breeders to produce foals from frozen semen imported from around the world. This widens the gene pool in New Zealand and allows us to improve New Zealand’s Paints over the years to come!

To produce Paint horses who compete in every discipline in New Zealand. Paints have a calm nature, and are intelligent, they have  a balanced body and strong hindquarters. Primarily we have seen Paint horses in the Western industry (barrel racing, reining for example). We aim to see Paints in all disciplines, showcasing that Paints are versatile and capable of all the English disciplines too, and lets not forget the traditional New Zealand stock horse, another job that Paints excel in. We encourage riders and their Paints to pursue the discipline of their choosing. Overall the Paint horse is easy to train, versatile, agile and, of course, the horse that stands out in the crowd.

To enhance genetics and aspire to breed out the 6 panel diseases (GBed, MH, PSSM1, Hypp, Herda, and MYHM). This can be achieved through careful selection of the Mare and Stallion during breeding. All APHBANZ registered horses are required to have the 6 panel test done. We hope over time that these diseases can be eradicated in New Zealand.

To be an inclusive Association and support every Paint horse owner, we want them to be seen and heard. Our association prides itself on being a big family! Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome, comfortable, and heard. Whether someone has a question or needs assistance, we are here to help and support each other.

To showcase and promote the fantastic Paint breed. Engage people to learn what a Paint is and become part of the Paint horse world. Paint horses have a friendly nature and are eager to please. They can show the Quarter horse build and Thoroughbred refinement. Then the cherry on top! The most stunning thing about Paints is their coat patterns, making them all unique, and each individual paint horse different looking. Blue eyes are common. There are different white genes that create different coat patterns and more being discovered every year. Once you own a Paint you discover Paint horses are like shoes, you must have one in every colour AND one in every pattern!
